Prepare for an unforgettable night of live music as the Kirklees Most Wanted Showcase lights up The Terrace in Dewsbury on February 20th. This eagerly awaited event will spotlight an amazing lineup of homegrown talent, offering a dynamic mix of genres and an electrifying atmosphere for music fans.

Joining us on stage are 4 exceptional acts, each bringing their own unique flair;

Eve Joné

Eve Joné is an emerging Indie-Folk/Folk singer-songwriter from Huddersfield who is committed to creating music that is a “true and genuine expression of who she is,” drawing influence from artists like Noah Kahan and her parents’ musical background. Her deeply personal and lyrical music often tackles complex emotions, notably in her album, The Water And The Trees (Live). This work features the song “Our Time,” which she describes as a “three-minute-therapy session” that addresses the emotional complexities of feeling undervalued in relationships. Having recently finished her studies at CAPA college, Eve has dedicated herself fully to her music career, successfully performing at her first festivals, including the main stage at Todmorden and slots at Holmfirth Folk Festival and supporting Good Good Blood for his recent album launch party.

Devon Salinas

Fusing the technical precision of jazz with the velvet grooves of modern R&B, Devon Salinas is crafting a sound that feels both timeless and essential. The Leeds-based singer-songwriter and guitarist has reached a new creative peak with ‘Say It,’ a track that moves from sun-drenched romance to the haunting, minor-key mourning of a past flame. His live set is a masterclass in atmosphere: expect silk-smooth Neo-Soul vocals backed by the sophisticated harmonic depth that only a true jazz guitarist can provide.

Penny

Penny is a rising singer-songwriter from Huddersfield known for her unique brand of Dream-Pop and Electro-Pop. She pairs sweet, alluring vocals with vulnerable and candid songwriting, using the creative process as a form of therapy. Her music, which includes singles like “Sad Puppy,” “Ur Girl’s Fine,” and “Outside,” explores complex narratives such as processing jealousy, toxic relationships, and self-worth. Penny’s sound is characterized by a low-key groove and compelling seductiveness, finding a “tranquil beauty” in heartbroken narratives that resonate strongly with listeners.

Don Gonzo

Don Gonzo is a high-energy band that delivers a punchy and unpredictable blend of Psychedelic Rock with influences of Post-Punk and Funk. They are recognized for their driving rhythms and unique, complex sound that is highly danceable and entertaining. Their standout track, “Quit Your Job,” is delivered at breakneck speed, featuring rapid percussion, electrifying jazz chords, and a post-punk riff. The simple, repeated line in the bridge—”quit your job, it won’t do no harm”—highlights the song’s effective anti-establishment message. Don Gonzo is a prominent, engaging act in the local music scene, having previously performed at events like the WRXL Afterparty in Huddersfield.

Fiesta La Ginger

Throughout the night, there will be DJ sets from Fiesta La Ginger, opening up the event and filling the spaces between the live acts and keeping the energy high.

Cuckoo – Waiting

Cuckoo is an up-and-coming rapper who’s celebrating the recent release of his second album ‘Orpheus’. Leading this project is his new track ‘Waiting All Night’ which blends his signature Yorkshire edge and hip-hop sound with a great storytelling ability. ‘Waiting All Night’ samples Rudimental and Ella Eyre but transforms that into a fresher and more relatable song. The narrative surrounds Cuckoo’s partner anticipating him coming home from the studio whilst she’s unconditionally faithful to him and his inevitable success as an artist. The song mirrors the rapper’s complex emotions as it constantly disorientates its listener by shifting perspective.

In the first verse, Cuckoo defines himself in his ambition towards his relationship and career. As a fully independent musician, he’s committed to mixing and mastering by himself as he waits for success. He’s also grateful for his perfect girlfriend who’s always ‘Waiting all night’ for him to return to her. This universal need of waiting for progression in different aspects of life haunts the song as the third verse leaves its familiar optimism behind. In its unpredictability, ‘Waiting All Night’ then resorts to heartbreak as Cuckoo honestly admits he feels his girlfriend’s incentive is too good to be true and so he’s still waiting for the right partner.

Flowers – Mystic Mystery

The artist Flowers is obsessive about music uniting its listeners, which is made evident by their new song “Mystic Mystery”. This track harnesses music as a positive force to help people believe in themselves and always strive for greatness. Even before any lyrics, “Mystic Mystery” is immediately uplifting with an introduction of soulful brass over simple chords, at once the song is so complex but an easy listen. Next, smooth vocals explore defying a society which wants to question your worth, and how there is feminine community in inspiring and rising through apparent constraints. Whilst still maintaining a relaxing tone, Flowers then breaks into an interesting rap verse further cementing the message. It’s an unexpected alternative track, and a welcoming, self-soothing track to whoever presses play.

Eskar – Kaiju

Eskar is an independent hip-hop artist from Huddersfield, UK. He produces pure rap tracks that flow like a river with lyrics that keep you guessing. On his track ‘Kaiju’ he features rap artist, Tonedeff. Eskar says “It was a dream coming true working with Tonedeff, having grown up with his music. This one really puts into perspective how far I have come as an artist.” In the local music industry he has made a name for himself for being an impressive rap artist who writes about real and raw topics without sugar-coating.

The track has a groovy bassline that can get anybody moving, laying down a foundation that feels both raw and irresistible. Beyond the rhythm, the lyrics act as an ode to confidence — sharp, self-assured, and delivered with conviction. Together, they create a track that doesn’t just demand attention on the dancefloor, but also resonates as a statement of attitude and individuality. The flow of the vocals is immensely impressive and makes the track sound all the more dynamic.

Kilo_igrft – SMOOTH

Kilo_igrft’s iconic sax sound mixed with raw stripped back vocals is what makes his music unique. His track ‘SMOOTH’ is a prime example of this. The track has no drums which pulls all the focus to the lyrics. The production also emphasises the lyrics beautifully to allow them to burst through and have the effect that was intended.

Kilo_igrft is incredibly authentic with his lyricism, and ‘SMOOTH’ is a perfect reflection of that honesty. The track dives deep into his thought process, unpacking the way he views the world and the emotions that come with it. What makes it stand out is how clearly his vision comes through — he’s unafraid to show vulnerability, which makes it easy for listeners to form a genuine connection with the music. Sonically, the production matches the theme effortlessly; the instrumental flows with an understated elegance, and the groove gives the track a natural, easygoing energy. True to its name, ‘SMOOTH’ glides from start to finish, leaving an impression that’s both reflective and undeniably captivating.

Cuckoo – Estate

Batley-based rapper Cuckoo, a self-taught artist, brings a fresh perspective to the local hip-hop scene. Crafting his music entirely from his bedroom, he channels a deep passion and determination, drawing inspiration from hip-hop legends like Eminem, 2Pac, and Biggie Smalls.

Cuckoo distinguishes himself by injecting vibrancy and humor into his music and visuals. His track “Estate,” accompanied by a community-driven music video filmed on the Wilton estate, reflects this approach. Instead of the typical dark and serious tone often associated with local rap, Cuckoo delivers bouncy, lighthearted, and sometimes comedic tracks.

“Estate” provides a glimpse into life on a council estate, but with a twist. Rather than focusing on the hardships, Cuckoo uses humor to highlight the everyday experiences, offering a relatable and often funny take on a topic that’s often portrayed negatively. He is currently working on his debut album “Orpheus.”
