Mighty Funk’Houser to support Greg Wilson at The Terrace Dewsbury

Kirklees’ Finest: Mighty Funk’Houser

For those in the know across Kirklees, the UK & further a field, Mighty Funk’Houser has built a formidable reputation as a Huddersfield native who refuses to be boxed in. His signature style is a “cosmic, universal influence of frequencies,” pulling from House, Funk, Soul, Reggae/Roots, and more, delivering sets that are a genuine journey.

As a celebrated Kirklees Most Wanted artist, his work is gaining national attention, with his single ‘Darn’ce Floor Rocka’ being hailed as a perfect blend of late-night funk and minimalist house. He’s also received support from the likes of Jamz Supernova and has been featured on major platforms including BBC 1Xtra, BBC Radio 6, Rinse FM, and Selector Radio.

Mighty Funk’Houser is also the co-founder of the influential Huddersfield club night Black Hudu, which is dedicated to creating a unifying groove and bringing diverse sounds back to the town.

The Wilson’s Republic WRXL event, which celebrated a decade of fostering creative community with the theme of ‘Routes,’ culminated in an absolutely electrifying private afterparty at Amped in Huddersfield.

Seamlessly transitioning the day’s inspiration into a night of community and celebration, the party was curated by us, transforming the venue into a powerful showcase for local talent. Attendees were treated to a diverse and gripping line-up that kept the energy high well into the night. Highlights included the beautiful, honest songwriting of Good Good Blood, the alluring and soulful sounds of vocalist Hannah Rowe, and the complex, yet highly danceable, Psychedelic Rock fusion of Don Gonzo. The celebration reached its peak with Therealdemo, a staple of the West Yorkshire scene, spinning classic and new Funk, Soul, and Hip Hop that kept the floor moving.

The Headliners: Ibibio Sound Machine 💥
Ibibio Sound Machine is led by the magnetic Nigerian vocalist Eno Williams, whose lyrics are often drawn from her mother’s folk tales and told in the Ibibio language of Nigeria. Their sound is an irresistible mash-up: a clash of electronic elements with the golden era of West African funk and disco.

The eight-piece band has garnered international acclaim for their exhilarating live shows, building a reputation across major festivals like Glastonbury and WOMAD. Their latest material, following the success of albums like Electricity, promises a blend of raw energy and powerful synth-funk grooves that will transform The Parish into a sweat-soaked, all-night dance club. Prepare for an infectious performance that is as rhythmically complex as it is joyously danceable.

Eve Joné – Our Time

Indie-Folk singer/songwriter Eve Joné demonstrates her lyrical prowess with her track ‘Our Time’ from her album ‘The Water And The Trees (Live)’. This song is a three-minute-therapy session, where the unspoken side of relationships and unrequited love is brought to light for us all to hear.

Hailing from Huddersfield, Joné’s music has met the ears of many audiences at festivals such as the Todmorden Folk Festival and Holmfirth Folk Festival, and she continues to gig at local pubs whenever she can. After graduating from CAPA college in Wakefield, she is taking a year out of education to focus on her music. After taking part in the Kirklees Most Wanted project last year, we are excited to have her back and we can’t wait to see what she’ll get up to!

“‘Our Time’ is about feeling under-valued and overlooked in relationships and the emotions that accompany that toxicity”, it covers the sad reality that coincides with caring more for others than for yourself, building resentment every time you push your own values aside to make way for somebody else. I’m sure we can all relate to people-pleasing in one way or another, and Eve Joné is here to guide us through the complex and overwhelming situations we can all accidentally find ourselves in!
