Eve Joné – Our Time

Indie-Folk singer/songwriter Eve Joné demonstrates her lyrical prowess with her track ‘Our Time’ from her album ‘The Water And The Trees (Live)’. This song is a three-minute-therapy session, where the unspoken side of relationships and unrequited love is brought to light for us all to hear.

Hailing from Huddersfield, Joné’s music has met the ears of many audiences at festivals such as the Todmorden Folk Festival and Holmfirth Folk Festival, and she continues to gig at local pubs whenever she can. After graduating from CAPA college in Wakefield, she is taking a year out of education to focus on her music. After taking part in the Kirklees Most Wanted project last year, we are excited to have her back and we can’t wait to see what she’ll get up to!

“‘Our Time’ is about feeling under-valued and overlooked in relationships and the emotions that accompany that toxicity”, it covers the sad reality that coincides with caring more for others than for yourself, building resentment every time you push your own values aside to make way for somebody else. I’m sure we can all relate to people-pleasing in one way or another, and Eve Joné is here to guide us through the complex and overwhelming situations we can all accidentally find ourselves in!

Mighty Funk’houser – Darn’ce Floor Rocka

Calling all house and EDM fans, Huddersfield’s own Mighty Funk’houser is here to deliver the goods! His single ‘Darn’ce Floor Rocka’ is the perfect culmination of late-night funk and minimalist house taking centre stage on his latest EP “MFH001” – a project with soul baked into every track. It’s said that this song “ignites any dancefloor”, and I can’t argue with that!

Appearing on several mainstream platforms such as BBC 1Xtra, BBC radio 6, Rinse FM and Selector Radio, ‘Funkz’ is taking the industry to greater heights. Not only has he gained support from DJs like Jamz Supernova, but he has also shared the stage with artists such as Soulful Grooves, Down Town Calling, Anouj, Afronaut & Mark Force (Bugz in the Attic) and many more! On top of this, he co-runs Huddersfield’s Black Hudu club night alongside Anouj Hng Connoisseur and Soulful Grooves; “This night is dedicated to uniting under one groove, where worries and troubles are left behind.”

‘Darn’ce Floor Rocka’ is a force to be reckoned with, with a driving groove and a funky baseline. Imagine late nights on the dancefloor, swaying along to this track while the sun starts to rise, there are very few things that could beat that vibe!

Azar – The mystery of Shapur’s cavern

Azar’s stunning and cinematic track “The Mystery Of Shapur’s Cavern” is inspired by a story about a pre-Islam Persian king from a book they read as a child. It takes you back in time through an immersive audio experience, with gritty synths and different melodic lines. Perfectly portraying the feeling of mystery and anticipation, the track is equally gripping, bewitching and thrilling.

Growing up in Iran, Azar began their journey in music by playing the guitar, which introduced them to the world of traditional Persian instruments and Middle-Eastern classical music. Since then, they have composed for adverts, short films, games and library music.

Now based in the UK, Azar has a collection of enchanting music ranging from peaceful atmospheric tracks to melodic ballads. The contrast between each song is a testament to their creative skills as well as their educational background, consisting of a Masters Degree in music. It is clear that Azar has a real passion for world music and integrates it seamlessly into their work, a real masterclass for film and TV composers around the world.

nON sTOP eROTIC cABARET – (dIS) cONNECTED

A groovy reality check for the modern world, “(dIS) cONNECTED” is inspired by our frequent use of technology and the dangers it can cause. A remix of NSEC’s debut single “cONNECTED”, with a faster pulse and an even catchier groove. What starts as a punchy, 80s-inspired electronic dance track leaves us wondering how our relationships have been negatively impacted by social media. In a world dominated by technology, nON sTOP eROTIC cABARET brings forth a wake-up call to those who are chronically online.

Timmy Faith and Damo Devotion (our two erotic cabaret creators) started working on their early demos in self-isolation after meeting at a festival. Since then, they have made songs about all aspects of life, and their robot singer Marvin Magnificence helps them communicate the lyrics to the public. Some of their discography includes “sLAVE tO tHE (aLGO)rHYTHM” and “dEATH fROM aBOVE”, tackling subjects such as the modern music industry and world conflict.

Memphis D – Down the road

“Down The Road” is the first track in Memphis D’s album “Songs For The King”, and is a real testament to storytelling through the blues. A soulful ballad portraying the sadness and heartbreak of a failed relationship, “Down The Road” sounds like it could be straight out of a Hollywood Western film. Although this song is about betrayal and leaving a loved one, D’s great rhythm and use of swing make it very hard to be angry.

Memphis D describes himself as being inspired by Classic Soul, Americana and Country which shows in this track and throughout the rest of his discography. Although D is based in Kirklees, his interpretation of the blues in “Down The Road” allows listeners to escape reality and time travel back to 1950s Memphis. D also has a sound similar to that of Elvis: soft and sincere – and any fan of the blues can count “Down The Road” as a welcome addition to their playlists.

Ruby Wood – My Favourite Song

Ruby Wood’s “My Favourite Song” is exactly that, my new favourite song.

Described by Wood to be a love letter to music, “My Favourite Song” unearths the connection between a person and the music that brings them comfort. Not only does it have an irresistible groove, but has such a level of danceability that you can’t help but put on repeat. This song is the perfect mix of intimacy and summertime R&B, captivating you from the second it starts until the saxophone gracefully fades out at the end.

The third track from Wood’s solo debut EP “Sincerely”, “My Favourite Song” is one of five beautifully written songs. This EP covers subjects such as letting go and pouring love into manifestation and growth, as well as watching daughters grow into powerful women – a beautiful and important sentiment supported by the love received by Jamie Cullum, Craig Charles and various other radio shows since the tracks release in 2023.

Originally from Huddersfield, Ruby Wood has been all around the world! Any fans of Bryson Tiller will be familiar with Wood’s mesmerising vocals after her appearance on “Right My Wrongs”, Tiller’s 4 x Platinum Winning hit from his 2015 album TRAPSOUL and its subsequent sell-out shows at Wembley Arena, Manchester Victoria Warehouse and Manchester Apollo. Although, this wasn’t Wood’s first collaboration or live performance. In fact, she has many collaborations including the likes of Alfa Mist and Krept & Konan, has toured with Bonobo and Nubiyan Twist and continues to grace the luckiest audiences alongside Nightmares On Wax, Abstract Orchestra and under her own name at venues such as The Great Escape and Cross The Tracks.
