Magic Rock Taproom
Magic Rock Taproom is a well known and loved Huddersfield establishment. Nestled just outside of the town centre on Willow Lane, it has a large indoor bar area and ample outside seating complete with a sheltered area, heaters and a floral banking to encourage wildlife. Although it has seen many re-brands, Magic Rock started out as a small company from its current premises and has gone from strength to strength. With another bar in Holmfirth and national acclaim, Magic Rock is now a household name. Kirklees Most Wanted caught up with charismatic bartender Ndea to get the lowdown on the main taproom.
How would you describe the atmosphere at Magic Rock?
“Chilled and intimate. You do get big groups of people but it’s never lairy. Energetic, but not
ridiculous. It’s just got a nice, buzzy vibe.”
What do you like best about Magic Rock?
“Probably the people who come in here because they’re respectful and honest. There’s a good range of
people. It’s popular with groups of students and arty types, but then older men and families like it too. It’s
very family friendly, especially on a Sunday.”
What kind of drinks do you serve at Magic Rock?
“Beer, spirits, wine. We also sell soft drinks like tea and coffee, but we specialise in craft ales.”
What’s your best selling tipple?
“Saucery and Ringmaster are our bestsellers.”
What’s your personal favourite?
“It depends, but probably Magic Haze which is tropical and fruity. I also like High Wire which has hints of
grapefruit.”
What kind of street food is on offer at the taproom?
“We have different street food vendors every weekend. For example, we have pizza, curries, gyoza,
“What’s Your Beef”, and “Radburger”. There’s always a vegan option available too.”
Which caterer is your favourite?
“Fish & are my favourite. They sell soft shell crabs which are delicious! Ivory Coast are good too. They do
yummy chicken wraps.”
What’s your favourite bar snack?
“Chilli Twists and the Poppadoms are good too.”
What kind of music do you play at Magic Rock?
“It’s very eclectic. Everything and anything.”
What else does Magic Rock have to offer?
“We have free board games and free table tennis and we’re dog friendly. We sell takeaway beers for
people to take home. We have some nice merchandise for sale; t-shirts and glasses designed by Richard
Norgate who does our graphics. We put on events such as sign writing classes and bike rides. People
can also hire the taproom for weddings and parties. We’ll be having some stalls in the run up to
Christmas and we’ll be having an event for the new Dairy Freak flavour so make sure to look out for that.”
Lesser Known Fact: There are crystals embedded in the concrete of the brewery floor.
